TRX (Tronix) is the native cryptocurrency of the TRON blockchain. It is not a token — it is a coin that exists at the protocol level, similar to ETH on Ethereum or BNB on BNB Chain. TRX is used to pay for network resources (bandwidth and energy), to stake for governance voting and resource acquisition, and as the base currency for the TRON ecosystem. Every TRON account needs TRX to function. TRX was initially launched as an ERC20 token on Ethereum in 2017, then migrated to its own blockchain in June 2018.
